Patient Services

At Ashgate Hospice, adults and their families who are dealing with the problems associated with a life-limiting illness receive the specialist palliative carethey need. . .

Our range of treatment and support focuses on improving the quality of life for patients by providing for the prevention and relief of suffering, early identification, assessment and treatment of pain as well as other psychosocial and spiritual needs. These services are appropriate for patients who have illnesses such as Cancer, Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and Motor Neurone Disease.

Treating each patient individually is at the heart of our approach. We provide care and support for physical symptoms as well as helping patients and families understand the nature of the illness. Most importantly, we help everyone in our care to work through any of the anxieties and fears they may have. .

Care is provided in a variety of settings including our In-Patient Unit, Day Centre and Out-Patient Clinics. Our services are also available at home or in hospital through our community and hospital teams.

All patients are able to benefit from services provided by our multi-disciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and chaplain. Other services such as dietetics, speech therapy, psychology, pharmacy and complementary therapies are also available through other organisations or the local hospital, with whom we have very close links.

Referrals to any of the services provided by the Hospice are normally made through health professionals including GPs, Consultants, Macmillan Nurses or District Nurses but you can also contact the Hospice for information if you prefer to do so.
