Looking after resident patients

Ashgate Hospice is able to provide care for 21 people as in-patients. Our Consultant-led clinical team provides specialist palliative assessment, support, advice and care to patients and their families or carers. The scope of our specialist care aims to improve quality of life by alleviating pain and distressing symptoms, helping patients maintain their dignity and abilility to act independently.

Most patients stay for approximately 14 days and are often able to return home to their families after receiving treatment.

Care is provided either in single rooms or in a three-bedded bay and wherever possible we try to accommodate individuals' preferences of either single rooms or bays. All rooms have en-suite wash basin and toilet. We also have specially adapted bath and shower equipment.

There are facilities for patients' visitors and an overnight stay suite will be available from January 2008.

The In-Patient Unit staff also provide out of hours telephone advice and support to patients, carers and other health professionals.
