Can your company help us, by giving a donation?
How does a company get relief? If your company decides to give money to Ashgate Hospice, it simply makes the payment through Gift Aid and deducts the amount as a 'charge' when working out its profits for corporation tax purposes. You make the full payment to us. You do not need to deduct any tax from the payment and we do not claim back any tax on the gift. You no longer have to provide a Gift Aid certificate to us or provide a new form of declaration. How do sole traders get relief? From April 2003, you can treat Gift Aid payments made between the end of the tax year and the date you send your Self Assessment return to the Inland Revenue as if they were made in the tax year the return is for. To do this, you must send your Self Assessment return in time to reach the Inland Revenue by the filing date. How do partnerships get relief?Any gift by a partnership is treated as if it's made by the individual partners. It will be treated as if you and your partners as each giving an equal share of the gift, unless you tell us that the partnership has decided to split the gift in a different way. It is treated as if your gift is paid out of your taxed income and Ashgate Hospice will reclaim the basic rate tax on it from the Inland Revenue. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can get relief on the difference between the basic rate and the higher rate of tax on the gross amount of your share of the gift. Unless one partner has power, under the partnership agreement or some other document, to make a Gift Aid declaration on behalf of the partnership, each partner will need to make a Gift Aid declaration.Further InformationPlease give us a call to find out how your donation can take advantage of tax benefits or alternatively you can contact the Inland Revenue Charity Helpline on 0845 3020203 (option 3), which is open from 8.30am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday.Payroll Giving - it adds up to more for everyoneThe beauty of Payroll Giving is that every one benefits - your company, your employees, and, most important of all people in North Derbyshire who have a terminal illness. For your company it is a simple way to demonstrate your commitment to staff morale and good causes. For donors it's an easy way of giving more at no extra cost to them. For us it provides a regular flow of income.A good feeling every paydayApart from the knowledge that you have given a great deal financially to Ashgate Hospice, Payroll Giving is extremely simple to use. Once your donation is set up, you don't have to do any more. Each week or month, as regular as clockwork, we will benefit.Giving direct from your pay is tax-free. Every £1 donated will only cost you 78p (for standard tax payers). The Inland Revenue will pay the 22p tax direct to the hospice. For example, if you pledge £5 from your gross salary each month (£1.25/week), it will only cost you £3.90, but Ashgate gets £5.00, thanks to the 'taxman' not taking 'his' share. THAT CAN MEAN AN INCREASE IN VALUE OF AN INCREDIBLE 28% The increase in value is even greater if you pay higher rate tax.
Who can give?Anyone can give if their pay or pension is taxed through PAYE and their employer offers a Payroll Giving Scheme. So if you're an employer and you don't operate a Payroll giving scheme, give us a call. There are even incentives from the government, so setting it up wont cost you a penny. Remember, when you join the Payroll Giving Scheme every gift you make is tax-free.
